The Sunshine Act was put in place to provide transparency for financial relationships between healthcare providers and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Nexonia includes a feature which supports the reporting of attendee details in support of the Sunshine Act, which requires the National Provider Identifier (NPI) information for any physicians or medical practitioners related to entertainment expenses.
Once enabled, the feature allows users to access a search function when reporting attendees against expenses, which can pull the NPI information from the USA CMS National Physician Payment Transparency Program database. This information in turn can be pulled in reports to track spending against attendees.
Enabling the Support Medical Attendees Feature
Logging in to Nexonia as the administrator, navigate to:
Settings > Company > Features
Edit the Features list, and navigate to the feature Support Medical Attendees.
Clicking the checkbox next to this feature will enable it.
Scroll to the bottom and click Apply to update your account with this feature.
Now, for any expense categories your tracking Attendees for, there will be an option for the user to search the CMS Medicaid data base for physicians and practitioners.
